MEET LAUREN
A Licensed Professional and Ally Here to Guide You
Hi, my name is Lauren Kampwirth, LCSW and I am looking forward to helping you determine the next best steps in your journey. I believe that increased self awareness is key in unlocking the tools internally available to us to help heal and become the best version of ourself. My role in the therapeutic alliance is to provide you with the support and direction necessary to help you find and utilize the resources available to you to help shape the life you want.
I began my journey as a therapist straight out of undergrad when I began working as a tech at an inpatient facility in Chicago. After 5 years in the field, I gained the courage to apply for and eventually complete my Master of Social Work at the University of Illinois. Since graduation I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient care settings in Champaign and enjoy everything this community has to offer. I have found that providing trauma-informed, nonjudgemental, accessible, psychotherapy is my passion and I look forward to growing with you.
In my free time I love to cook (and eat), travel, garden, and walk around town with my dog Gandalf. I am a graduate of the United Way Emerging Community Leaders program and volunteer with several non-profit organizations in Champaign County.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR VISIT
I am so glad you are here. As someone who has been there, I understand how scary it can be to reach out for support. I want to reassure you that I am here as your ally, without judgement, to help you determine what treatment approach might be best for you.
Our first session will be considered an assessment appointment to learn more about your story and goals in psychotherapy. If we agree that it seems like a good fit, we will discuss treatment planning and future appointments. If your needs can be better met elsewhere, I am happy to provide you with referrals and resources available that may be more beneficial. Your well-being is my first priority.
"In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?"
